One of the most recognizable luxury SUVs, the Range Rover, received a redesign for the 2022 model year and is better and cooler than ever. Unlike its predecessor, the Range Rover's fairly recent redesign is more of an evolution of the previous model than a revolution. It may look the same as its predecessor at first glance, but it is a complete redesign. The previous Range Rover looked great, so why mess with excellence? Anyway, the new Range Rover is offered in either short- or long-wheelbase form and with a variety of powertrain options. The base engine in the new Range Rover is known as the P400, which is a turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt hybrid system producing 395 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can also upgrade to the P530, which is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. It can launch from zero to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds in the P400 and 4.3 seconds in the P530, with both versions capable of a top speed of around 150 mph. Every version of the new Range Rover is paired to an eight-speed automatic, with power being sent to all four wheels. For 2023, a plug-in hybrid P440e with 434 horsepower has been added to the Range Rover lineup but can only be configured with the short-wheelbase SE trim. Besides the SE trim, the new Range Rover is available in Autobiography and SV trims and either short- or long-wheelbase form.
Like its predecessor, the new Range Rover comes standard with adaptive air suspension that can be raised or lowered to adapt to any terrain or road conditions. Its interior is generally trimmed in leather and wood but is now available in a more sustainable leather-free package with wool and other textiles. The current Range Rover can seat four, five, or seven depending on its wheelbase and configuration. In addition, it comes standard with a 13.1-inch curved infotainment display with Land Rover's most recent Pivi Pro interface, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon's Alexa voice assistant, in-dash navigation, a 13.7-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless smartphone charging, and SiriusXM satellite radio. A rear-seat entertainment system with 11.4-inch displays is optional, and its split rear liftgate can become comfortable and convenient seating at outdoor events such as football tailgates, concerts, and drive-in movies.
Pricing for the current flagship Range Rover starts at $105,975 for the short-wheelbase SE and increases up to around $200,000 for the long-wheelbase SV. I have seen a few of the latest Range Rover out and about but was only able to get photos of the one featured in this post thus far, which was on display at my local Jaguar/Land Rover dealer back in late August. Overall, the new Range Rover isn't my favorite SUV, but it is cooler and more impressive than most SUVs. Its recent redesign seemingly didn't have as much hype around it compared to its predecessor, but it was certainly intriguing enough for me to want to take a closer look.
