Featured here is one of the later-model Series III Jaguar E-Types from the early 70s. This version of the classic iconic sports car from Jaguar adds an updated front fascia and mechanical enhancements over earlier versions of the E-Type. It was also the only E-Type to be offered with a V12, which was a 5.3-liter engine producing 250-272 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The V12 E-Type launches from zero to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 146 mph. A four-speed manual was standard, while a three-speed automatic was optional. The Series III E-Type gained a longer wheelbase over the previous E-Type models and was available as a 2+2 coupe or a roadster. Other notable changes added to the V12 E-Type include flared fenders, four exhaust tips, and a V12 badge on the rear. US-spec E-Types from the early 70s were equipped with larger rubber bumper extenders to meet federal safety regulations at the time, which don't look as good as the bumpers on the Euro-spec models.
The Series III V12 was the end of the line for the Jaguar E-Type, with production ending in 1974. A typical Series III V12 E-type is currently worth around $70,000 on the secondhand market. Overall, it may not be the best, my favorite, or the most visually appealing E-Type, but the Series III V12 Jaguar E-Type is a fabulous, stunning, and incredible classic sports car that is a worthy sendoff for a British automotive icon.
