2014 Los Angeles Auto Show: Audi Prologue Concept

Another major reveal that occurred at this year's L.A. Auto Show was the Audi Prologue concept. This concept is a preview of the next Audi A8, various chassis developments, and a new styling direction for Audi's future models. Under the hood is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing approximately 600 horsepower and 516 foot-pounds of torque (553 lb-ft with overboost). Its 0-62 mph time is believed to be 3.7 seconds. The Prologue concept rides on a set of large 22-inch alloys, which provide an aggressive stance. It also utilizes Audi's renown Quattro all-wheel drive system. A few significant features on this car include slim line matrix laser beam headlamps, electromechanically-operated doors that eliminate the need for door handles, cylinder on demand, and a 48-volt electrical system accommodating "mild hybrid capability" that recovers energy under braking for increased fuel efficiency. The sole gearbox option in this car is an eight-speed auto and its curb weight totals 1980 kg. Numerous touchscreens adorn the interior to accommodate the driver and front passenger. The driver is identified by their cell phone, automatically adjusting the seat, climate, radio, and sat-nav to best suit them via a "butler" service. In my opinion, the Audi Prologue is an awesome concept that looks stunning and contains all the high-tech features to ensure the best ride quality (out of any Audi). They haven't confirmed this yet, but this concept should make Audi consider producing the coupe variant of the A8, the A9, which would make a great Mercedes-Benz S-class coupe competitor.
