It certainly wasn't the first electric truck to hit the market, but after a series of delays since its inception, Tesla has officially released one of the most intriguing, unusual, recognizable, and controversial vehicles currently on sale in the Cybertruck. It entered production in late 2023 for the 2024 model year and currently offers dual-motor and tri-motor configurations, with a rear-wheel drive, single-motor model coming to the Cybertruck portfolio in 2025. The Cybertruck Dual Motor produces a combined 600 horsepower, launches from zero to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, and carries a top speed limited to 112 mph. The three-motor Cybertruck Beast generates a combined 834 horsepower, launches from zero to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, and is capable of a top speed limited to 131 mph. A 123-kWh battery is standard on both the Cybertruck Dual Motor and Cybertruck Beast, giving the Dual Motor 340 miles of range and the Beast 301 miles of range. Both the Dual Motor and Beast gain up to 440 and 470 miles of range with an optional range extender located in the truck's cargo bed. The single-motor, rear-wheel drive Cybertruck that is coming next year is estimated to carry a 250-mile range. Every Cybertruck has a standard payload capacity rating of 2500 pounds, while towing capacity is rated at 7500 pounds for the upcoming single-motor Cybertruck and 11,000 pounds for the Cybertruck Dual Motor and Beast models.
Other standard features on the Cybertruck include an adjustable air suspension that provides up to 17 inches of ground clearance, rear-wheel steering, a bare stainless-steel body finish, and a unique tonneau cover. Inside, like practically every other Tesla, the Cybertruck offers a spartan and simplistic interior with nearly all of its controls located in its massive center touchscreen display. Besides the main 18.5-inch touchscreen display up front, the Cybertruck contains a 9.4-inch touchscreen display at the back of the center console for rear-seat passengers, along with some front trunk storage space and a hidden storage compartment beneath the floor of the bed. When hooked up to a Tesla Supercharger, the Cybertruck can add between 128 and 136 miles of range in 15 minutes. Pricing for the Tesla Cybertruck starts at $62,985 for the single-motor model that will go on sale next year, $81,895 for the Dual Motor, and $101,985 for the three-motor Beast.
To date, I have seen roughly five Cybertrucks in person, and I expect to see more examples on the road and at car shows in the coming months. I have only been able to photograph two of these five Cybertrucks so far, with the first one on display at a car show I attended in mid February and the other one spotted right by my local DMV last month. In addition, one of the examples I have seen in person so far (twice to be specific) was wrapped in matte black, making it stand out even further than it already does. Seeing a Cybertruck in person feels almost unreal, and its distinct and unusual shape and design reminds me of that of an alien spaceship or moon rover. It certainly turns the heads of nearly everyone, including non-car enthusiasts, and I wasn't all that shocked when I first saw the Cybertruck in person back in mid February that it received the most attention of any vehicle on display at that specific car show where I first saw it up close at. Overall, I don't see it as the best all-around truck, but the Tesla Cybertruck is definitely one of the most interesting with its cool design, amazing performance, and impressive technology.
