2016 Porsche 911 R (991)

It may look like any other Porsche 911 to most people, but the limited-edition R is one of the most extreme, pure, and sought-after versions of the previous 991 generation of the legendary sports car. The 911 R was produced for only the 2016 model year and is powered by a 4.0-liter flat-six with 500 horsepower and 338 pound-feet of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It can launch from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and is capable of a top speed of 201 mph. The R's distinct styling aspects compared to other versions of the 991-gen Porsche 911 consist of the GT3 RS' front bumper and center-lock wheels, along with the lack of the large rear wing and other aerodynamic components featured on the GT3 RS. Most 911 Rs are either painted white or silver with contrasting colored stripes running across the top of the vehicle from the rear engine cover to the frunk lid.

Only 991 examples of the 991-gen Porsche 911 R were ever built, with a typical 911 R from 2016 currently selling for between $450,000 and $500,000 on the resale market. The total number of 911 Rs that I have seen in person has now reached seven, with this post showcasing the two most recent examples I have seen up close. The first example in solid silver was spotted unexpectedly while I was running errands after attending a car meet on a nice Saturday midday in mid February, while the second example in silver with green stripes was on display at my local Audi/Porsche dealer, the latter of which I had seen much more recently on Thursday last week. Spotting the first example of these two unexpectedly in the wild was absolutely incredible and unbelievable, which originally inspired me to create this specific and more recent post on this special and exclusive Porsche 911. The 911 R may not be my absolute favorite version of the Porsche 911, but it remains an amazing and phenomenal rare sports car. In addition, since purist analog sports cars are dying breed, this has allowed me to develop a greater appreciation for the 911 R and other similar sports cars than I would for some other types of vehicles.
