McLaren GT

The GT currently stands as the most luxurious and daily drive-able McLaren model. It made its debut for the 2020 model year as a roomier, more comfortable alternative to other sports cars in the McLaren lineup. Powering the McLaren GT is the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 used in a few other McLaren models, most notably the 720S, producing 612 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels. These power figures in the GT are about 100 horsepower and 100 pound-feet of torque less than those of the 720S. It launches from zero to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of 203 mph. Like other McLaren models, launch control and multiple driving modes are standard on the GT to optimize acceleration and tune the vehicle's handling to the driver's desires. Also like other McLaren sports cars but unlike other grand tourers, the GT features butterfly doors and a lack of rear seats. Other standard equipment in the McLaren GT include leather upholstery, 15 cubic feet of rear cargo space, five feet of front trunk space, and a 7-inch touchscreen display. A panoramic glass roof that allows the driver to switch from various levels of transparency with the press of a button is optional on the McLaren GT, and its 20 cubic feet of combined cargo space is pretty decent for a McLaren and grand tourer in general.

Pricing for the McLaren GT starts at around $210,000. Starting for the 2025 model year, McLaren is giving the GT a mid-cycle refresh and a new name. Known as the GTS, the updated version of McLaren's grand tourer receives minor styling changes inside and out, a power boost, new colors, and an increase in gloss-black trim, and will officially go on sale later this year. As for the example pictured in this post, I saw it pass through a car meet I attended in late January. This marked the first time I was ever able to take photos of a McLaren GT and only the second McLaren GT I have ever seen in person. The first McLaren GT I ever remember seeing in person was spotted passing on the other side of a freeway in San Jose during the summer of 2022, an instance where I was unable to take any photos of that one. Overall, the McLaren GT is a beautiful and incredible supercar and grand tourer. It may not be the coolest or greatest McLaren model, but I am amazed by the GT due to its great combination of performance, comfort, and rarity for a car in its segment.
