The R1S is the SUV version of the electric Rivian R1T pickup and the second vehicle ever introduced by EV startup Rivian. It debuted last year and shares many of its parts and specs with the R1T. Powering the R1S is a standard Dual-Motor setup producing a combined 600 horsepower, while a Quad-Motor setup producing a combined 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque is optional. The Quad-Motor R1S can launch from zero to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 111 mph. All-wheel drive and an adjustable air suspension are standard on the R1S. It currently offers either Standard or Large battery packs with up to 260 and 316 miles of range respectively. A top-of-the-line Max battery pack will be added to the R1S sometime within the next year.
Like the R1T, the Rivian R1S contains a premium interior with leather and wood trim along with two large digital displays for the infotainment system and gauge cluster. However, unlike the R1T, the R1S offers three-row seating and a split tailgate. It also offers plenty of cargo space in the back and its front trunk. Pricing for the Rivian R1S starts at around $80,000. I have seen at least a handful of Rivian R1Ts on the road now, and it wasn't until early last month that I saw an R1S in person for the first time at my local Cars & Coffee. In addition, I saw at least one or two other examples of the R1S on the road after my first sighting at Cars & Coffee last month and expect to see more of them on the road in the near future. Overall, the Rivian R1S is the best and coolest electric SUV available today. Its performance, technology, capability, and practicality are nothing short of impressive.
