Spyker C8 Spyder

The C8 Spyder is one of the first and best-known vehicles from Dutch sports car manufacturer Spyker. The Spyder is the original and base version of the C8 that first made its debut in 2000. It is powered by a mid-engine 4.2-liter V8 sourced from Audi producing 405 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque paired to a six-speed manual gearbox. It launches from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and is capable of a top speed of 186 mph. Its interior is lined in top-notch leather and aluminum trim pieces, containing elements inspired by Spyker's aviation history. A variety of round gauges and toggle switches are featured on the dashboard, and the gear linkage in its six-speed manual is visible in the cabin.

Spyker ended production of the original C8 Spyder in 2009. The C8 has spawned other versions as well, such as the Laviolette, Aileron, and Preliator. I don't expect many people outside of the car community to be familiar with Spyker unless they remember its attempted buyout of Saab from GM in the late 2000s. As with all Spyker models, the C8 Spyder is incredibly rare. I don't ever recall seeing a Spyker up close until I attended this past Exotics on Broadway in Monterey in August. Overall, Spykers may be overlooked by many but are cool, unique, and special in their own right. The Spyker C8 Spyder featured in this post didn't blow me away like some cars that were on display at Exotics on Broadway, but I consider myself super lucky to have seen such an amazing vehicle in person that most people may not ever get to see up close.

On a side note, rest in peace to legendary rally driver Ken Block, who was recently killed in a snowmobile accident at the age of 55. He was amazing and a big influence in car culture. Prayers to his family and friends during this difficult time. Gone too soon.
