McLaren 765LT

The 765LT is the latest McLaren model to receive the Long Tail treatment. It was first released for the 2021 model year, while the open-top Spider version was added for 2022. This post will mostly be focused on the 765LT Coupe, which was produced only for the 2021 model year and is pictured in this post. The 765LT is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 755 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It launches from zero to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds and is capable of a top speed of 205 mph. Like the preceding 675LT compared to the 650S, the 765LT is slightly longer, lighter, and more extreme compared to the 720S. Other changes include more aggressive front, side, and rear splitters, additional canards and vents for improved aerodynamics, a roof scoop, a larger retractable rear wing, and a more prominent quad exhaust setup. Its interior design and layout are shared with the 720S, except measures have been taken to increase performance and reduce weight. These include lightweight seats, removed carpet, and thinner glass.

Only 765 units were ever produced for each of the 765LT Coupe and Spider, which carried a starting price of around $360,000. In other news, the de-tuned 720S has been discontinued for 2023 and is no longer available to order from McLaren, but luckily a replacement is in the works and should be released within the next two years. As for this 765LT, I spotted it in a nearby parking lot to Exotics on Broadway in Monterey back in August on my way out from that show. It was amazingly not on display as an actual show car, but I had to go out of my way to take a closer look at it since I hadn't seen one up close until that moment. I had also seen at least a handful of 720S' in Monterey and at Exotics on Broadway when that show was being held. Overall, the McLaren 765LT is an absolutely incredible supercar and the best and coolest of the most recent Long-Tail McLarens. I was already a big fan of the 720S, so it comes as no surprise that I have been in complete awe of the 765LT since the moment I first heard about it. Finally spotting one near the greatest car show I attended this past year made it even more special to me.
