The Lucid Air is the most formidable challenger to the Tesla Model S yet. It first hit the market for the 2022 model year and is available in five different trims: Pure, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Performance, and Sapphire. The entry-level Pure trim is powered by a single electric motor with 480 horsepower sending power to the rear wheels. The Touring and Grand Touring are powered by dual electric motors with standard all-wheel drive, producing 620 horsepower in the Touring and 1050 horsepower in the Grand Touring. The top-of-the-line Sapphire contains three electric motors producing a total of 1,200 horsepower. A luxurious Dream Edition was also offered for the Lucid Air's first model year. The example pictured here is a Lucid Air Grand Touring, which can launch from zero to 60 mph in three seconds and reach a top speed of 200 mph. In addition, the Grand Touring model has a 112-kWh battery and can recover 300 miles of range in about 20 minutes of charging. The Lucid Air boasts the best and longest range of any electric vehicle on the market today: at least 410 miles on the entry-level Pure and up to 516 miles on the Grand Touring.
The interior of the Lucid Air is luxurious, lined in high-quality materials and featuring state-of-the-art technology. Other notable interior features include a large and expansive digital gauge cluster and infotainment interface, a retractable lower infotainment touchscreen, a roomy backseat area with an optional reclining seat function, and a full panoramic glass roof. The Lucid Air also provides plenty of cargo space in its front and rear trunks, center console, and behind its retractable lower touchscreen.
Pricing for the Lucid Air starts at around $89,000 for the entry-level Pure trim and skyrockets up to around $250,000 for the flagship high-performance Sapphire trim. As for the Grand Touring trim level featured in this post, it starts at around $155,000. I have seen at least a few Lucid Airs on the road so far, but the example pictured here is the only one I have been able to take photos of. I spotted this one just outside of the Exotics on Broadway show in Monterey back in August and is probably the best and nicest example of the Lucid Air out of the ones that I have seen in person. Like with many new electric cars, I expect to see more Lucid Airs on the road in the near future. Overall, the Lucid Air is a fantastic and impressive electric car, and I see it as a cooler and better all-around vehicle than the Tesla Model S and pretty much any Tesla for that matter.
