Mazda RX-7 (FD)

The Mazda RX-7 from most of the 90s was one of the most iconic and most notable Japanese sports cars of its era. It debuted in 1992, and while the FD RX-7 was offered in other global markets until 2002, it was only sold in North America from 1993 to 1995. Its rotary engine displaced 1.3 liters and produced 252 horsepower and 217 lb-ft of torque paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The RX-7 from this time period was available in three configurations: base, Touring, and R1/R2. The Touring trim added a glass moonroof, a rear window wiper, leather seats, and a Bose Acoustic Wave sound system with a CD player. The R1/R2 added upgraded springs, an additional engine cooler, suede seats, and improved aerodynamics. The early to mid 90s RX-7 is a rare and valuable sports car, but it is especially rare to find one completely stock, as it was a popular vehicle among tuners. Depending on their overall condition, the RX-7 FD can sell anywhere from the low $30,000s up to the high $100,000s.

After the RX-7 officially ended production in 2002, Mazda replaced it with the RX-8 in 2004. The RX-8's production run lasted until 2012, and Mazda hasn't produced another rotary sports car since. In all, the FD generation is the best and coolest Mazda rotary sports car ever made. It is also one of the coolest road-going Mazdas ever made. Most Mazda models don't stand out to me, but the early to mid 90s RX-7 does in the best way possible, especially with its gorgeous styling, unique powertrain, and collector car status.
