Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo

Never would I have expected a serious race car to show up at my local Cars & Coffee earlier this month and turn that show on its head. That is exactly what we have here in the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo. It debuted in 2018 as Lamborghini's purpose-built racing vehicle for both its exclusive Super Trofeo GT racing series and private clientele. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10 with 620 horsepower paired to a six-speed sequential automatic gearbox with a lightweight three-disc racing clutch and flywheel. Other notable features include a roof-mounted air intake leading into a vertical fin running the length of the engine cover, a large overhead-mounted rear wing, a full-on carbon-fiber aero kit, a roll cage, a non-glare alcantara dashboard, and a center-exit dual exhaust.

Lamborghini replaced the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo with the updated Huracan Super Trofeo Evo 2 as their current race car in 2021, with the latter sporting styling changes and improved aerodynamics. Overall, the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo is an amazing and incredible race car. If I ever see serious race cars that aren't street-legal up close, they are usually in museums or at major car shows, and stumbling across these kinds of cars in real life is a different and special kind of feeling.

BMW Z8

The Z8 was BMW's flagship roadster for a few years during the early 2000s. It was produced from 2001 to 2003 as a more modern version of the BMW 507 roadster from the late 1950s. Powering the Z8 is a 4.9-liter V8 with 395 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque paired to a six-speed manual gearbox. It makes the dash from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed limited to 155 mph. The Z8 was only offered as a soft top, but a removable body-color aluminum hardtop came standard with every unit if drivers wished to use the latter as well. Its interior features a relatively simplistic design with leather and aluminum trim to give it more of a timeless feel.

A total of just over 5,700 units of the BMW Z8 were built over its three-year production run. It also made an appearance in the 1999 James Bond film The World is Not Enough, putting the Z8 in some special company with other exotic cars from the James Bond series. This particular Z8 is a 2001 model year painted in silver and fitted in red and black leather with silver aluminum panels on the dashboard. It is currently for sale at my local BMW dealer priced at $235,000. I have only seen a few BMW Z8s in person, so as soon as my local BMW dealer received a Z8 in its inventory, I had to plan a visit to check it out up close, and I was definitely in for a treat. Overall, I am not a huge BMW guy, but the Z8 is one of my absolute favorite BMWs ever made and one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Its gorgeous and timeless design coupled with solid performance and general rarity make the Z8 much cooler and more appealing than most BMW models.

Porsche 911 Sport Classic (992)

The Sport Classic is the latest special and limited edition of the Porsche 911. It was introduced last year and mixes retro styling cues, the 911 Turbo's powertrain, and purist elements into one impressive package. Powering the new 911 Sport Classic is a 3.7-liter twin-turbo flat-six with 543 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque mated to a seven-speed manual gearbox. It launches from zero to 60 mph in three seconds and is capable of a top speed of 196 mph. Other distinctions of the Sport Classic compared to other Porsche 911 models include a ducktail spoiler, Fuchs-style alloy wheels, checkered cloth inserts on the seats and door panels, and gold badging.

Only 1,250 examples of the 992-gen Porsche 911 Sport Classic will ever be made, with each one starting at $273,750. I saw a Sport Classic in person for the first time at my local Audi/Porsche dealer a month ago. It was on display in the showroom but not for sale. In all, the Porsche 911 Sport Classic is an absolute beauty and guaranteed to be popular and highly sought-after among Porsche collectors. I didn't expect to see the new Sport Classic when I last visited the Audi/Porsche dealer, but I'm grateful I did, especially since I love rare exotic sports cars and supercars.

Porsche 911 GT2 RS (2018-20)

The GT2 RS was the pinnacle of the previous 991-gen Porsche 911 and remains the fastest and most powerful Porsche 911 to date. It debuted towards the end of the 991-gen's production run in 2018 and features a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six with 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It launches from zero to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds and is capable of a top speed of 211 mph. The GT2 RS contains a greater use of carbon fiber and vents than any other road-going Porsche 911 along with a massive rear wing. Like other Porsche 911 GT models, the GT2 RS features a combo of leather and faux-suede trim covering its interior along with center-lock wheels, a center touchscreen display, and an optional front-axle lift system to more easily clear speed bumps and steep driveways.

Production for the latest GT2 RS ended right as the Porsche 911 entered its current 992 generation. As for the next GT2 RS, rumors suggest that it is expected to be equipped with a hybrid powertrain that will produce more than 700 horsepower. In addition, the next GT2 RS is slated to debut for the 2026 model year. Showcased in this post are the two most recent examples I have seen up close of the 991 GT2 RS. The first example in black comes with the Weissach package, which adds a roll cage, racing harnesses, contrasting red faux-suede trim, more carbon fiber and titanium parts, and other weight-saving measures over the base GT2 RS. It is currently for sale at my local Audi/Porsche dealer priced at $382,000. The second example in blue was on display at the most recent Cars & Coffee meet near me about two weeks ago, and I have seen this particular example at some previous local Cars & Coffee meets as well. In all, the 991 GT2 RS is an insane and marvelous Porsche 911. It also stands out to me significantly more than most versions of the Porsche 911 since it is a top-of-the-line model and I see a lot less of them compared to the standard 911, 911 Turbo, and other 911 GT models.

2016 Porsche 911 R

The 911 R is one of the most extreme and exclusive versions of the previous 991-gen Porsche 911. It was added to the Porsche 911 portfolio for only the 2016 model year as a limited edition track-focused model. Consider the 911 R a more subtle and hardcore GT3/GT3 RS. Powering the 991-gen 911 R is a 4.0-liter flat-six producing 500 horsepower and 338 lb-ft of torque paired to a six-speed manual gearbox. It can launch from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds onto a top speed of 201 mph. There are a few notable ways to distinguish the 911 R from other 991-gen Porsche 911 models: the R contains the GT3 RS' front bumper and center-lock wheels but lacks the large rear wing and other aero components featured on the GT3 RS. Most 911 Rs are either white or silver with different colored stripes running across the top of the vehicle. However, this particular example is unique in that it is painted yellow without any contrasting stripes on top. It also features black leather and carbon fiber trim with contrasting yellow stitching in its cabin, along with other lightweight materials and weight-saving measures.

Porsche built a total of 991 units of the 911 R for the 2016 model year. I've seen at least five 911 Rs up close since its debut eight years ago, with the one featured in this post being the most recent sighting. This particular example in yellow is currently for sale at my local Audi/Porsche dealer priced at over $500,000. Once I found out that my local Audi/Porsche dealer had this 911 R in stock, I had to find a way to see it up close for viewing and photography purposes, and I was able to do so about a month ago, especially since I am a complete sucker for rare exotic sports cars and supercars. Overall, it may not be my favorite Porsche 911 model, and this yellow one may not be the most appealing example that I have seen, but the 991-gen 911 R is an absolutely amazing and wonderful sports car and collector's car.

2019 McLaren 600LT

The 600LT is the latest track-focused Long-Tail version of McLaren’s entry-level Sport Series. It was introduced for the 2019 model year as a limited edition during the last few years of the 570S' production run. Powering the 600LT is a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 with 592 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque paired to a seven-speed automatic gearbox. It launches from zero to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and is capable of a top speed of 204 mph. The coupe version of the 600LT was only produced for 2019, while the Spider version was produced for both 2019 and 2020. The 600LT's most notable additions over the base 570S consist of a greater use of carbon fiber, such as in its front and rear diffusers and larger rear wing, and lightweight titanium exhaust pipes protruding from the engine bay. Its roof can be fitted in either bare carbon fiber or its body color along with an optional roof scoop.

Only 500 units were ever made for each of the fixed-roof 600LT and 600LT Spider. Pricing for the 600LT started at $242,500 when new. I have now seen two additional 600LTs in person since I last saw four at Exotics on Broadway back in August. These two most recent examples were at the past two Cars and Coffee meets I attended last month and about a week ago. It is by no means a vehicle that I see on the street regularly, but I have seen more 600LTs up close than nearly all other limited-production McLaren models, which I don't find all that shocking. In addition, these were also two of the cleaner and nicer examples that I've seen of the 600LT. Overall, the McLaren 600LT is an amazing, stunning, and truly special supercar, and I am in complete awe every time I spot one anywhere under any context.
