The 296 is a relatively new Ferrari mid-engine sports car that in some ways is and performs unlike any other Prancing Horse before it. Ferrari introduced the 296 in 2022 and offers it in fixed-roof GTB and droptop GTS forms. Motivating the 296 GTB and GTS is a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 paired to an electric motor producing a combined 819 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque sending power to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. It launches from zero to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds, zero to 100 mph in 4.7 seconds, and is capable of a top speed of 205 mph. Underneath the vehicle floor is a 6.0-kWh battery that allows the 296 to drive on just electricity. It offers four drive modes: eDrive, Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify, and electrically-assisted power steering and a brake-by-wire system are standard key mechanical components of the 296. Forged alloy wheels are standard on the 296, while carbon fiber wheels are optional. Inside, the 296 features a premium cabin lined in mostly leather. Two of the 296's primary interior elements are its digital gauge cluster that also houses the navigation and audio systems, and a smaller, narrower digital display for the passenger.
Pricing for the Ferrari 296 starts at $346,950 for the GTB and $379,950 for the GTS. Earlier this year, Ferrari added a more extreme and track-focused model to the 296 portfolio known as the 296 Speciale, which is expected to enter production and go on sale early next year. Saturday's monthly local Porsche Club Cars & Coffee marked the first time I have ever seen the Ferrari 296 GTB and GTS in person. Around when the 296 first went on sale a few years ago, I initially was not as excited about it as I was with other Ferrari models and supercars, but I have always wanted to see one up close, and I am grateful to have been given an opportunity to do so for the first time Saturday morning. After seeing these two examples in person for the first time, I view the Ferrari 296 in a more positive light, and this was certainly one of my top highlights of the most recent Porsche Club Cars & Coffee. Overall, the 296 is a stunning Ferrari supercar with impressive performance figures, and seeing and capturing these two specific examples was a proud, significant, and noteworthy moment in my automotive photography journey.
