Never would I have expected a serious race car to show up at my local Cars & Coffee earlier this month and turn that show on its head. That is exactly what we have here in the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo. It debuted in 2018 as Lamborghini's purpose-built racing vehicle for both its exclusive Super Trofeo GT racing series and private clientele. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10 with 620 horsepower paired to a six-speed sequential automatic gearbox with a lightweight three-disc racing clutch and flywheel. Other notable features include a roof-mounted air intake leading into a vertical fin running the length of the engine cover, a large overhead-mounted rear wing, a full-on carbon-fiber aero kit, a roll cage, a non-glare alcantara dashboard, and a center-exit dual exhaust.
Lamborghini replaced the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo with the updated Huracan Super Trofeo Evo 2 as their current race car in 2021, with the latter sporting styling changes and improved aerodynamics. Overall, the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo is an amazing and incredible race car. If I ever see serious race cars that aren't street-legal up close, they are usually in museums or at major car shows, and stumbling across these kinds of cars in real life is a different and special kind of feeling.
