Pagani Huayra R

The final part of the Pagani at Exotics on Broadway 2023 miniseries concludes with the most extreme Huayra of them all, the track-only Huayra R. It made its debut in 2021 as a successor to the Zonda R and a sendoff to the Huayra range of supercars. Unlike its road-going versions, the Huayra R is powered by a naturally-aspirated 6.0-liter AMG V12 developed and built by HWA AG, a racing subsidiary of Mercedes-AMG, producing a whopping 838 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque paired to a six-speed sequential manual transmission. It launches from zero to 60 mph in the low three-second range. The Huayra R shares more in common with the Zonda R than any other Huayra and features extensive weight-saving measures and a lower-slung profile. Only the side mirrors and Pagani titanium bolts carry over from other Huayra models to the Huayra R. Its body is made of mostly carbon-titanium and carbon triax with several functional vents everywhere on the vehicle. Another signature design element of the Huayra R is its large carbon-fiber fixed rear wing with two moveable aluminum flaps on top of it. In addition, since it is a track-only race car, the Huayra R doesn't have a rear window. With all of its additional weight-saving measures, Pagani claims a dry weight of 2,314 pounds for the Huayra R.

Only 30 units of the Huayra R will ever be built, with pricing starting at around $3.5 million. Pagani announced and unveiled the replacement for the Huayra about a year ago, which is known as the Utopia. I've seen a few video clips of the Huayra R on the track, and seeing it speed down the track and hearing the raw, throaty shrill of its V12 was absolutely glorious. The example featured in this post that was at this year's Exotics on Broadway was not only the first Huayra R that I've seen up close, but it stood out more than any other Pagani and arguably any other car on display there. The Pagani Huayra was already a rolling work of art and one of the coolest cars in the world, but the Huayra R takes that formula, adds steroids, and turns it into an entirely different and completely insane beast.

This wraps up the Pagani at Exotics on Broadway 2023 miniseries on Carson's Car Pics. The 14 Paganis on display at the biggest event of Monterey Car Week this year are the most Paganis I've ever seen up close together in my life. I am definitely looking forward to seeing more Paganis in person again sometime soon, especially the Zonda and Utopia, the two Pagani models I have yet to see in person. In the next few posts, I will feature supercars from Swedish boutique manufacturer Koenigsegg, another notable and significant presence at Exotics on Broadway.
