Featured here is the latest installment of the king of fast wagons, the ultimate daily driver, and one of my all-time favorite cars, the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon. This particular example is based on the previous W213 generation of the E-Class, more specifically the facelifted version produced from 2021 to 2023. Powering the most recent AMG E63 S Wagon is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, which sends power to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic gearbox. It launches from zero to 60 mph in three seconds and can accomplish a top speed limited to 180 mph along with a quarter-mile time of 11.1 seconds. Besides the performance upgrades and a few cosmetic enhancements, other notable improvements added to the AMG E63 S Wagon over the standard E-Class Wagon and E-Class All-Terrain consist of a revised suspension, larger brakes, and a drift mode. On top of supercar-level performance, the AMG E63 S Wagon offers a premium cabin with comfortable seating for five people and plenty of cargo space to haul luggage and groceries.
Pricing for the W213-generation Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon started at around $120,000 when new but can be found for close to or below $100,000 on the resale market today. Mercedes-Benz also confirmed that this latest AMG E63 S will be the last one to be motivated solely by internal combustion, as its next generation will certainly feature a hybrid powertrain like those in a few current Mercedes-AMG 63 S models. Back to this specific example, I spotted it in Downtown San Jose when walking from a parking lot a few blocks away to the SAP Center to attend Saturday’s Sharks-Capitals game. It is also the only mid-cycle refresh W213-generation AMG E63 S Wagon that I have seen up close that is not a Final Edition. In addition, although they are not particularly common, the AMG E63 S sedan vastly outnumbers its wagon counterpart in the U.S., and I have seen more examples of its chief competitor, the Audi RS6 Avant, in person while out and about. Therefore, due to its all-around capability, exclusivity, and subtlety, I was thrilled to capture my most recent sighting of my dream daily driver unexpectedly while in San Jose this past Saturday. I am looking forward to spotting and capturing photos of more examples of the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon and documenting them on this site in the near future once I stumble across more of them in person.
