Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro (2019-21)

 

The AMG GT R Pro is a more track-focused version of the previous-generation high-performance Mercedes-AMG GT R. This specific version of the previous AMG GT was produced from 2019 to 2020, most of which were for the 2020 model year, and is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo AMG V8 with 577 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It launches from zero to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and can accomplish a top speed of 198 mph. The Pro adds extra components to boost aerodynamics and track performance over the AMG GT R, most notably a larger rear wing, extended front splitter, and side canards. It also adds a tougher carbon fiber brace below the rear subframe, ball joints in the upper rear control arms compared to the standard lower-control-arm-only ball joints in the non-Pro AMG GT R, a revised carbon fiber roof panel, and optional neon green or dark matte gray stripes. Mercedes-AMG claims that the GT R Pro's modifications add 220 pounds of downforce and shave 20 pounds off of its curb weight compared to those of the GT R. 

Only 150 examples of the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro were allocated to the U.S. market, with each example carrying a starting price of around $240,000 when new. This particular AMG GT R Pro was on display at the second car meet I attended on the first of March. Not only was this one of the most significant vehicles to appear at the second show I attended this month, it was also one of my favorites. On top of that, I do not recall the last time I saw this particular version of the previous Mercedes-AMG GT in person before Saturday, and it looks absolutely amazing in gray with neon green stripes. Overall, the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro is a beautiful, incredible, and impressive track-oriented sports car and one of the top highlights from the second car show I attended this month.
