Superlite SL-C

The Superlite SL-C is a fascinating kit car that not many folks are familiar with. It was introduced in the early 2010s by Michigan-based kit car manufacturer Superlite Cars and is meant to emulate the Ultima GTR. The SL-C's most common power sources are GM LS V8s, especially the 7.0-liter LS7 V8 in particular, which I believe motivates the example pictured in this post. The LS7 V8 in the SL-C produces 506 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque, launching the vehicle from zero to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Superlite designed the SL-C's engine bay to accommodate a variety of different engine options. Regardless of what engine it has, the Superlite SL-C comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, a fiberglass body, an all-aluminum chassis, an aluminum suspension, and fiberglass bucket seats. Some SL-C examples feature large rear wings, while others like the example pictured here do not. It is also capable of keeping up with other performance vehicles that are much more upscale and expensive on the track.

Pricing for the Superlite SL-C starts at just over $50,000. This particular SL-C was on display at this year's Exotics on Broadway show in Monterey, and I do not remember seeing one up close prior to the greatest car show I attended and will ever attend this year. When I had stumbled on this kit car at Exotics on Broadway, I was already somewhat familiar with the SL-C, and it definitely caught my eye and stood out to me as one of the more unique and unusual cars that I saw there that was not a million-dollar limited-production hypercar. Overall, the Superlite SL-C is a rare, awesome, underrated, and budget-friendly kit car that looks like an absolute blast to drive and will turn heads everywhere it goes.
