1960s Mercedes-Benz 230S

This 230S is not your average classic 1960s Mercedes-Benz. Before diving into some specifics on this particular example, a brief overview: the 230S is one of several models that were part of the W111 generation of Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which was produced from 1959 to 1968. It was also the mid-level trim of the W111 S-Class lineup and originally powered by a 2.3-liter six-cylinder with 120 horsepower, sending power to the rear wheels through both manual and automatic transmission options. Coupe, convertible, and long-wheelbase versions of the W111 were also offered, and to little to no surprise, these other forms are more sought after on the resale market.

Back to the specific 230S featured in this post, it was on display at a classic car show I attended back in early September and stands out above most other classic 1960s Mercedes-Benz models due to its significant modifications. This particular example adds aftermarket wheels, tinted windows, headlights, and taillights, a more modern Mercedes-Benz V8 swap, blacked-out bumpers, badges, and grille, and a redone red leather interior. All these mods make for a sicker, more menacing appearance than stock. Overall, this 230S looks incredible and is one of the coolest and most impressive vehicles on display at this classic car show back in early September that had mostly hot rods, American muscle, cruisers, and trucks.
