Porsche 911 Carrera (992)

One of the top sports car icons in the automotive world has been redesigned for the 2020 model year and is an evolution of its previous generation. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-6 from the 991.2 carries over to the 992, upgraded to 379 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque in the Carrera and Carrera 4 and 443 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque in the Carrera S and 4S. The 992-gen Porsche 911 goes from 0 to 60 mph in anywhere between 4 and 3.4 seconds and tops out at 179-191 mph depending on the trim level and configuration. As with previous Porsche 911s, the only major difference between the base/S and 4/4S is the latter having AWD. The 992's interior is all-new, integrating more touchscreen interfaces and sensors than before. The 7-speed PDK dual-clutch in the 991 has been upgraded to an 8-speed PDK in the 992. Notable features include Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi, a PASM adaptive sport suspension, and options such as a sport exhaust, an improved torque-vectoring rear differential, and a tighter turning radius and increased high-speed stability thanks to an additional rear-wheel-steering feature. The 2020 Porsche 911 carries a starting price of $97,400 and climbs up to $133,400 for a fully loaded Carrera 4S. In other news, the new 911 has been awarded this year's Motor Trend Best Driver's Car, among other awards. The Turbo, GT3, GT3 RS, and GT2 RS variants of the 992 are under development and on their way. Overall, the 992-gen Porsche 911 is a marvelous sports car that is capable of anything.

Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon

Many of you may recall that over a year ago, I featured an AMG E63 S wagon on this website that I spotted in the Bay Area, which will be linked at the end of this post. The example above is a much more recent spotting, and it deserves its own post for many reasons. The Mercedes-AMG E63 S wagon is one of my absolute dream cars, one of my favorite Mercedes-Benz models of all time, one of the best all-around vehicles ever made, the ultimate daily driver and family car, and my choice for if I could only drive one vehicle for the rest of my life. A brief overview: the current E63 S wagon is powered by a 4.0-liter AMG twin-turbo V8 with 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, propelling the vehicle to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of close to 200 mph. In addition, the AMG E63 S wagon flies under the radar, as in it won't turn anyone's heads except for those of enthusiasts, and very limited numbers are imported to the U.S. every year, making it even more special. I have a soft spot for performance wagons, and the Mercedes-AMG E63 S is the best of them all.

McLaren M6GT

The M6GT is one of McLaren's earliest endurance racing vehicles and road car prototypes. However, the example above is a replica. Instead of a hand-built V8, V10, or V12 from McLaren, power is sourced from a Chevy 383 V8 producing around 300 horsepower. The original M6GT had an estimated 0 to 100 mph time of eight seconds and a 165 mph top speed. Bruce McLaren made only three M6GTs before he unexpectedly passed away in 1970. In addition, the entire M6GT project had to be shelved because McLaren was unable to meet the FIA's new regulations at the time. Regardless of its fate, the McLaren M6GT is an incredible car that deserved a second chance in motorsports and on the road.

Toyota GR Supra

The Toyota Supra has made its long-awaited return for the 2020 model year. It was created as a result of a partnership between Toyota and BMW and shares many of its components with the new BMW Z4. Also, unlike previous Supra models, the fifth-gen Supra is assembled in Austria alongside the current BMW Z4. Powering the new Supra is a BMW 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six producing 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic. It travels from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph. The "GR" in its name stands for Gazoo Racing, one of Toyota's in-house tuners. The 2020 Supra is available in base, Premium, and Launch Edition trims. Although its infotainment system is directly from BMW, Toyota hides any evidence of that very well. Pricing for the revived Supra starts at just under $50,000. It should be no surprise that at this year's SEMA show, several modified Mk 5 Supras were displayed for the first time. I have always been a fan of the Toyota Supra, and the latest one definitely excites me. It may not be my absolute favorite sports car, but it is by far the best and coolest Toyota available today.
