Koenigsegg CCGT

The Koenigsegg CCGT is a one-off track vehicle prototype originally created to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It began development in 2003 and was fully completed in 2008, satisfying the GT1 racing class specifications. Powering the CCGT is a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 capped at 600 horsepower, launching the vehicle to 60 mph in under three seconds and a 213 mph top speed. The one-of-one Koenigsegg race car rides on a carbon monocoque chassis and is based on the CCR but utilizes some CCX parts as well. However, the CCGT was unable to race competitively, and no additional examples were produced due to sudden rule changes by the FIA for the GT1 class of racing vehicles two months after the completion of testing and development for the vehicle. More specifically, these rule changes stated that carbon monocoque chasses were not allowed, and minimum production numbers increased from 20 cars per year to 350 cars per year, which Koenigsegg simply could not keep up with these demands.

Although its racing ambitions were never realized, what was initially a side project turned out to be one of the most unique and fascinating Koenigseggs ever created. The CCGT appeared at Exotics on Broadway in Monterey last month, where I and many others saw it up close for the first time ever. The primary theme at this year's Exotics on Broadway show being Koenigsegg's 30th anniversary made this a prime opportunity to publicly display the CCGT, resulting in quite possibly a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see this one-off masterpiece in person. Overall, besides the other Koenigseggs and Paganis recently featured on this site, the CCGT is undoubtedly a top highlight of the 2024 edition of Exotics on Broadway that I will remember forever.
