Here we have another SLR, this time in the form of a roadster. The drop-top version of the SLR McLaren was added in 2007 as part of a partnership between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren in Formula 1 during much of the 2000s that extended to road cars as well. Powering the SLR is a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 producing 617 horsepower and 580 pound-feet of torque paired to a 5-speed automatic transmission. It can launch from zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and is capable of a top speed of 208 mph. The biggest and most notable difference between the SLR Roadster and its fixed-roof counterpart are the former’s fabric top, while the Roadster retains the same butterfly doors as the coupe.
Only 2,157 examples of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren were made from
2003 to 2010, including the Roadster, 722, and Stirling Moss versions.
The average SLR currently sells between $300,000 and the
upper $400,000s on the resale market. I saw this specific SLR Roadster at a car meet that took place in late April, and it was by far the coolest car that showed up to that particular meet. In addition, this marked the second time I saw this silver SLR Roadster up close, with the first time occurring at a different car show three years ago. In fact, I was completely blown away when I saw this SLR again in late April that I felt the need to make another post about it. It remains a gorgeous, impressive, and underrated supercar that is bound to turn heads everywhere it goes and become a future classic in the coming years.
