Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series

The SLS AMG Black Series is the track-focused version of Mercedes-Benz's modern gullwing supercar and one of six hardcore Mercedes-AMG Black Series models ever made to this point. It was added to the SLS portfolio in 2012 for the 2013 and 2014 model years as the SLS AMG GT3 race car in street-legal form. Powering the SLS AMG Black Series is a naturally-aspirated 6.3-liter V8 with 622 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The SLS Black Series launches from zero to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and tops out at 196 mph. Notable changes on the Black Series model compared to the standard SLS AMG and SLS AMG GT include an increased use of carbon fiber in its body panels, mechanical components, and space frame, a titanium exhaust system, a unique body kit, a prominent carbon-fiber rear wing, an electronically-controlled rear-axle differential lock, and an upgraded suspension. In total, the Black Series weighs 154 pounds less than the base SLS.

Mercedes-Benz built around 350 units of the SLS AMG Black Series, about 200 of which were allocated to the U.S. The average SLS AMG Black Series is currently valued in the $500,000s on the resale market. I have now seen roughly three or four SLS Black Series examples in person so far, with the most recent one featured in this post from a car show I attended in late May. The SLS Black Series was a favorite car of mine when I was a teenager, and I still see it as one of the coolest and most impressive Mercedes-Benzes of all time due to its raw power, timeless and menacing appearance, and overall exclusivity.
