The Spyder RS is the most potent, most extreme, and best-performing drop-top Porsche 718 yet. It was added to the 718 entry-level sports car lineup for the 2024 model year as the last model of the current 718 Boxster/Cayman generation. The Spyder RS contains the same powertrain setup as the fixed-roof 718 Cayman GT4 RS, a 4.0-liter flat-six with 493 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque paired to a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox. The launch from zero to 60 mph in the 718 Spyder RS occurs in 3.2 seconds according to Porsche. The Spyder RS features a practically identical front-end design to that of its Cayman GT4 RS counterpart, except the former doesn't have as many aggressive aerodynamic components as its fixed-roof version. However, the 718 Spyder RS adds downforce over lesser 718 models through a bigger and reshaped ducktail spoiler. Its suspension is almost identical to that of the Cayman GT4 RS, except with softer spring rates and a slightly different ride height. Like other recent Porsche GT and RS cars, the 718 Spyder RS revs up to 9000 rpm and utilizes carbon fiber, alcantara, and other lightweight material trim in its cabin to conserve as much weight as possible.
Pricing for the Porsche 718 Spyder RS starts at roughly $162,000. On the other hand, the 718 Spyder will be the last internal-combustion entry-level mid-engine sports car from Porsche, as the German automaker confirmed that the current iteration of the 718 will cease production in the middle of next year, and the next-generation 718 will be fully electric. This has already resulted in the current 718 Cayman GT4 RS and Spyder RS values skyrocketing to at least between $200,000 and $250,000 on the resale market. As for the example pictured in this post, this marked the first 718 Spyder RS I have ever seen in person, which occurred at my local Audi/Porsche dealer on Friday of last week. This particular 718 Spyder RS is not for sale, but rather at my local Audi/Porsche retailer purely for display purposes. Like the Audi R8 GT in the previous post, this 718 Spyder RS was the other primary motivating factor for my most recent visit to my local Audi/Porsche showroom last week. Overall, the Porsche 718 Spyder RS is an awesome sports car, and it and the Cayman GT4 RS will only appreciate further from here since they mark the end of an era for Porsche vehicles.
